Purpose and goals
The Educational Committee is charged with propagating best practices in European applied neuroscience, from research methods and to clinical standards. As such, it supports the Executive Committee in shaping ECNP’s educational offering, especially for Early Career Scientists (ECSs), and oversees the delivery of its training and educational programmes, activities and tools.
Tasks
The Educational Committee primarily oversees or contributes to:
- Overseeing ECNP’s suite of educational initiatives. The Educational Committee plays a critical role in advising the Executive Committee on how to execute ECNP’s educational mission, including optimising its targeting strategy and programme design, and helping to ensure state-of-the-art platforms and tools. The Committee also works with the ECNP Networks to review Network educational proposals and identify potential opportunities.
- Advising on the development of the ECNP learning management system. The Educational Committee is also asked to advise on ECNP’s digital content strategy, including the organisation and sourcing of its online content library.
- Determining the programme of the ECNP Congress Educational Update Sessions. These sessions – seven per congress days – feature topics relevant to clinical practice. The focus is on interactivity, via the use of a Q&A system through the congress app, and continuous dialogue between participants and presenters. Every year, one and a half years in advance of the Congress (deadline 1 March), a call for submissions is sent out to solicit proposals for the sessions. The Committee is also invited to submit its own proposals. The chair of the Educational Committee is ex officio a member of the Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) of the ECNP Congress. The SPC might ask input from the Educational Committee, after review of proposals received, for input on speakers or other suggestions.
Composition
The committee has a maximum of eight members including the chair. The term of service is three years. Members can be asked for a second term.
Time commitment
The Educational Committee meets every year during the ECNP Congress (September/October), and two to three times during the year by Zoom/Teams video conference. Committee members are required to attend all meetings and calls. Input may also be requested by e-mails on specific topics, to which committee members are expected to respond. Travel expenses to the ECNP Congress and one night’s accommodation are paid for by ECNP.
