Keynote Lecture: How we build internal models of the world

Ray Dolan is Mary Kinross Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Director of the Max Planck- UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing. He trained in medicine in Ireland (1971-1978), and subsequently completed specialist training in psychiatry in the UK (1981). He was appointed as Consultant Neuropsychiatrist to the National Hospital, Queen Square (1987). He was founding Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Neuroimaging (2006-2015).

His research interests include the neural mechanisms of reward, learning and decision making, and how impairment in these relate to neuropsychiatric disorders. He holds an honorary Professorship at the Humboldt University Berlin and is an External Member of the Max Planck Society. He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA), A Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) and a Fellow Royal Society (FRS). He is the recipient of numerous international awards including the Minerva Foundation Golden Brain Award (2006), the Max Planck International Research Award (2007), the Brain Prize (2017) and the Royal Society Ferrier Medal (2020).
