Age at autism spectrum disorder diagnosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis from 2012 to 2019
van ’t Hof, M., Tisseur, C., van Berckelear-Onnes, I., et al.
Recommended by Prof. Michal Hrdlicka, Czech Republic: 'Meta-analysis results found a current mean age at diagnosis of 60.48months; however, if studies that only included children aged ⩽10 years were taken into account, mean age at diagnosis was 43.18months. The number can serve as a benchmark for good clinical practice including age at diagnosis of autism worldwide. According to the authors, it is the first global average age at autism spectrum disorder diagnosis determined from a meta-analysis.'
Giving meaning to the social world in autism spectrum disorders: Olfaction as a missing piece of the puzzle?
Barros, F., Soares, S.C.
Recommended by Prof. Michal Hrdlicka, Czech Republic: 'The authors describe that most of socioemotional processing deficits in ASD have been shown in an uni-modal perspective, mainly with visual stimuli; however, the social environment is typically multisensorial. Given the potential of olfaction as a gateway for socioemotional information in ASD, they argue in favor of studying olfactory perception, as well as visuo-olfactory integration.'
